Ambassador Willy C. Gaa and wife Linda hosted on 11 June 2004 a reception to mark the 106th anniversary of Philippine Independence at the Hilton Hotel.

Chinese officials who graced the event included Mr. Shen Guofang, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Chen Fengxiang, Assistant Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Gaa noted that aside from celebrating Philippine Independence, the Philippines and China also marked the 29th anniversary of diplomatic relations on 9 June.

Some 200 officials, members of the diplomatic corps and the Filipino community in Beijing also participated in the reception.
