PRESS RELEASE
RP wins “best booth award” in China Travel Fair
The Philippines won the “Best Booth Award” in the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) on 3-6 March 2005.
Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, who headed the 36-man Philippine delegation to the Fair, said that the award was a result of the collaboration of the whole Philippine delegation, the office of the Philippine Tourism Attaché in Beijing, partners in the private sector, and members of the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, who all did their share in ensuring that the Philippines won the hearts of the people who attended the fair.
Bearing the DOT’s marketing slogan for the Chinese market—“Wow Philippines!—My Holiday Paradise”—the Philippine booth bested exhibits from 27 other countries with the “beach holiday concept.”
Secretary Durano also praised Philippine Consul General to Guangzhou Erlinda Gavino and her staff for helping organize the activities.
Philippine Ambassador to China Willy C. Gaa, who has made tourism promotion one of his main responsibilities in China, also traveled to Guangzhou to support RP’s participation in the fair.
An estimated 115,000 travel professional and visitors trooped to the booth throughout the four-day fair. Now on its 12th year, the GITF has grown into an important platform for promoting the global tourism industry and related businesses.
Tourism Attaché Jay Esguerra receives the award for Best Booth with Dir. Rolando Canizal, ASEC Eduardo Jarque of DOT CMTF, Warren Palacio of DOT Beijing and the Bayanihan dancers.
