TYPHOON SENIANG OUT
CEBU AND BORACAY BACK IN BUSINESS
10 December 2006

The Department of Tourism (DOT) wishes to Inform the traveling public that after Typhoon Seniang (international code name Utor) Cebu and Boracay are back in business.

In Cebu, with the postponement of the ASEAN Summit from 10-14 December, a number of hotels expressed a potential low occupancy during the period. The DOT Overseas Offices and private sector have immediately contacted travel wholesalers and corporate accounts whose reservations have been on the waitlist as well as unconfirmed status due to the scheduled event. In addition, the local hotels are offering discounted super low rates to guests which will allow them to experience the new and upgraded facilities and services invested on by the participating properties. The combined efforts of DOT and the industry players have made positive gains in bringing back the groups and now lifting occupancy levels.

In Boracay, only those affected are structures using light materials with reconstruction and repair easily done in a few days. Debris is all over and clean up operations are ongoing particularly on the beach. Earlier flights were cancelled but have now resumed. The local government units, DOT and other agencies are working hand-in-hand to ensure the convenience of. visitors. Meanwhile, holiday makers have already been seen carrying on with their leisure activities on the beach.
